Momoshiki trying to ressurect , and he didn't had any other backup , so Boruto couldn't pull a "killing Jiren to rid his Karma".
So , he and Kawaki enacted a plan to inject Boruto's Karma on Code , than Kawaki killed Boruto...so now , Code is bound to die.
In short , Uzumaki Boruto pulled an Orochimaru.

We still don't know what Boruto and Kawaki's actual plan is though.

No it is not a filler, it is an arc with out otsutsuki this might help characters grow

technically it's anime canon since it has an impact on the story, but yeah. Almost every arc that doesn't have to do with Kara or the Otsutsuki is filler/anime canon.

That's what vibe I got from almost every episode because almost every episode is "filler" to comments. Based on reading so much, without doing actual research my understanding is everything is canon, BUT, not derived from manga. Hence the term I have never seen except here, Anime Canon.

I really should look up how it works, my guess is mangaka approves it has canon, without writing the story. Kind of would fit the anime of trying to be modern with focus on anime rather than manga (scientific ninja tools rather than personal chakra)
